Who We Are

DisabilityActivists.org is an Illinois-based grassroots advocacy group. We believe that disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes a person's right to:

  • live independently
  • enjoy self-determination and make choices
  • benefit from an education
  • pursue meaningful careers and
  • enjoy full inclusion and integration in the economic, political, social, cultural, and educational mainstream of society in the United States.

We dedicate ourselves to that fight for equality with humor, feistiness and all the fight we have within us.

Wise Words

"The popular belief is that protests arise when large numbers of individuals are fed up with the injustices of their lives. Actually, that rarely occurs. Rather, people rise up when they sense a whiff of hope." Frank Bowe

Nothing About Us Without Us

No policy should be decided by any representative without the full and direct participation of members the group(s) affected by that policy. The term comes from the title of a book by James Charlton about people with disabilites.
